Profile
Representative Seth Magaziner proudly serves Rhode Island’s 2nd Congressional District.
Representative Magaziner grew up in Bristol, RI, the most patriotic town in America, and learned the importance of public service from a young age. He started his career as a public school teacher, and served as Rhode Island’s General Treasurer for eight years during which time he spearheaded an initiative to rebuild dozens of school buildings across the state and created new programs to invest in clean energy projects, creating thousands of jobs and lowering costs for ratepayers.
Representative Magaziner ran for Congress to fight for working people and protect the fundamental rights of all Americans. He has introduced bills to lower drug prices, guarantee paid time off for all workers, and invest in career and technical education to provide young people with training for good-paying jobs.
Representative Magaziner is committed to protecting Social Security and Medicare, protecting abortion rights and holding Washington accountable. He co-sponsored legislation to protect Social Security and ensure benefits keep up with the cost of living, and co-sponsored the Women’s Health Protection Act to support a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions regarding abortion. Magaziner also believes elected officials should serve the people, not themselves, and has co-sponsored the bipartisan TRUST in Congress Act to ban lawmakers from trading stocks.
In his short time in Congress, Representative Magaziner has been focused on delivering results for Rhode Islanders and has secured millions of dollars of federal funding for local projects to improve public safety, invest in schools and make Rhode Island a better place to live. Among the many federal grants secured by Magaziner are funding to support the police departments in Cranston and Coventry, rehabilitate public libraries in South Kingstown and Providence, prevent flooding in Johnston and develop the waterfront in East Greenwich.
In the U.S. House of Representatives, Magaziner serves on the Natural Resources Committee and the Committee on Homeland Security, for which he is Ranking Member on the Subcommittee for Counterterrorism, Intelligence and Law Enforcement.
