Profile
Michael Waltz is the nominee for United States Ambassador to the United Nations, selected by President Donald Trump to serve as America’s top diplomat at the world body. A decorated combat veteran, former Green Beret, and sitting U.S. Representative from Florida, Waltz brings a unique blend of military, diplomatic, and legislative experience to the role.
Waltz has served in Congress since 2019, where he has been a leading voice on national security, foreign policy, and military affairs. A member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee, he has championed a strong national defense, stood firm against authoritarian regimes like China and Iran, and advocated for increased accountability within international organizations, including the United Nations.
Prior to his time in Congress, Waltz served as a Green Beret in the U.S. Army Special Forces, with multiple combat tours in Afghanistan and the Middle East. He also held senior national security positions in the Pentagon and the White House, including as a defense policy director and counterterrorism advisor.
In announcing his nomination, President Trump praised Waltz as “a fearless American patriot and a warrior on the world stage,” saying, “Mike Waltz understands strength, diplomacy, and the need to put America First in every international forum. He will represent our nation with honor, courage, and clarity at the United Nations.”
If confirmed, Waltz is expected to bring a bold, reform-minded approach to the U.N.—prioritizing American sovereignty, standing firmly with U.S. allies, confronting global adversaries, and challenging anti-American bias in multilateral institutions. His background in both military service and international policy positions him to advance U.S. interests with strategic insight and principled leadership.
Waltz would be the first Green Beret to serve as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, marking a historic milestone and reinforcing Trump’s commitment to strong, mission-driven leadership on the global stage.
