Profile
Chris Wright, the former CEO of Liberty Energy, currently serves as the U.S. Secretary of Energy. Appointed by former President Donald Trump, Wright is also a member of the newly established National Energy Council, which plays a central role in directing American energy policy. The council is chaired by North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, who now leads the Department of the Interior.
Wright rose to prominence as a leading voice in the energy industry through his leadership at Liberty Energy, a major oilfield services company known for its focus on hydraulic fracturing. As CEO, he became a passionate and outspoken advocate for American energy independence and the continued development of oil and gas resources.
He has publicly rejected the dominant climate crisis narrative, asserting that “there is no climate crisis and we are not in the midst of an energy transition either.” Wright has emphasized the transformative role of affordable, reliable energy—particularly fossil fuels—in lifting global living standards, and has warned against policies that he believes threaten energy access and economic growth.
With a background in mechanical engineering and geophysics, Wright brings both technical expertise and industry experience to his role in government. As Secretary of Energy, he is spearheading efforts to expand domestic energy production, roll back federal regulations, and prioritize energy affordability and reliability.
His appointment marks a definitive shift in U.S. energy policy, aligning with Trump’s stated goal of achieving “American energy dominance” and reducing dependence on foreign sources and renewable mandates.
