A Prayer for the U.S. Congress – Summer Recess

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today lifting up the men and women of the United States Congress as they prepare for their summer break. We thank You for those who have answered the call to serve their nation, and we ask that You grant them rest and renewal in the days ahead.

Lord, may this season away from Capitol Hill be a time of physical rest, mental clarity, and spiritual refreshment. Give them the opportunity to enjoy meaningful time with their families and loved ones. Restore the joy of their calling, and let their hearts be encouraged by the relationships that matter most.

As they return to their districts, may they listen with empathy and humility to the voices of their constituents. May they see not just numbers and polls, but the stories, struggles, and hopes of real people. Give them a shepherd’s heart for those they serve.

Father, we ask You to stir within them a desire for godliness, moral integrity, and humble accountability. Surround each one with wise counselors and mentors who speak truth with grace. Raise up spiritual advisors in their lives who will guide them with courage, love, and the authority of Your Word.

May this time be marked by moments of quiet prayer, where each one seeks Your wisdom for the decisions ahead. Let them not lean on their own understanding, but in all their ways acknowledge You, that You may direct their paths.

We pray for unity in purpose, even in the face of deep differences. Help them to lead with conviction and compassion, remembering the weight of their responsibility and the power of their influence. Keep them from pride, bitterness, and weariness in doing good.

Guard their health, protect their families, and renew their vision to legislate with justice, righteousness, and mercy.

Above all, Lord, we ask that You would visit our leaders with a spirit of repentance where needed, and a hunger for righteousness that leads to peace. May they walk humbly with You and govern in a way that honors Your name.
