Congressman Marlin Stutzman – U.S. Representative for Indiana’s 3rd Congressional District
Congressman Marlin Stutzman represents Indiana’s 3rd Congressional District, which includes Fort Wayne and much of northeastern Indiana. He returned to the U.S. House of Representatives in January 2025 after previously serving in Congress from 2010 to 2017.
Early Life and Education
Born on August 31, 1976, in Sturgis, Michigan, Marlin Stutzman was raised on a family farm in northern Indiana. He is a fourth-generation farmer and entrepreneur. After graduating from Lake Area Christian High School in 1994, he attended Glen Oaks Community College and Trine University (formerly Tri-State University), though he did not complete a degree.
Career in Agriculture and Business
Stutzman began working in agriculture at an early age and launched his own cattle operation as a teenager. He later joined and helped expand the family’s farming and trucking business, which now operates thousands of acres and transports agricultural goods. He and his wife have also co-owned a farm-to-table dinner theater and meat processing business in Indiana.
Public Service in Indiana
Stutzman was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in 2002 at the age of 26, representing the 52nd District. He later served in the Indiana State Senate from 2009 to 2010. During his time in the state legislature, he focused on energy policy, government reform, and fiscal matters.
Service in the U.S. House of Representatives (2010–2017)
In 2010, Stutzman won a special election to represent Indiana’s 3rd District in Congress, following the resignation of his predecessor. He was re-elected to several terms and served on committees including Agriculture, Veterans’ Affairs, Financial Services, and Budget. He was involved in legislation related to federal spending, agriculture, veterans’ issues, and healthcare policy. In 2016, he ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate and did not seek re-election to the House that year.
Return to Congress in 2025
After an eight-year break from elected office, Stutzman ran for and won the 3rd District seat again in 2024. He was sworn into office in January 2025. His policy priorities include reducing federal spending, supporting veterans, promoting domestic energy production, decentralizing education policy, and securing the U.S. border. He serves on the House Financial Services Committee and the House Budget Committee.
Political Views
Stutzman generally supports limited government, lower taxes, and conservative social policies. He has advocated for eliminating the federal Department of Education, expanding health savings accounts, and promoting local control of schools. He also supports pro-life legislation, Second Amendment protections, and private-sector solutions to healthcare and energy challenges.
Personal Life
Marlin Stutzman lives in Howe, Indiana, with his wife Christy. They have two children. In addition to his work in Congress, he remains active in the family’s farming and transportation businesses.
